Ms. Monique Johnson was born and raised in Counech County, Alabama. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1999. Monique moved to Birmingham, Al in 2003 to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. She then pursued her Master’s in Counseling and Psychology and received her degree from Troy University in Montgomery, Al. Monique continued her education by returning to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and earned her Ed.S in Counseling and Supervision.
Throughout her experience and training, she has received awards and earned numerous certifications. Monique is a Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor specializing in working with children and adolescents with trauma as well as adjustment issues. She is also a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist specializing in helping individuals of all ages learn the importance of mastering their emotions.
Outside of counseling, Monique loves to teach. She serves as an adjunct instructor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in the counseling program and facilitates numerous workshops for mental health professionals. She has been a guest on several panels promoting mental health awareness. She also provides supervision to ALCs to assist them in their journey to becoming amazingly skilled Licensed Professional Counselors.
Monique is a proud mother of two beautiful, bright, and athletic girls. She enjoys being a mother and everything that encompasses. She loves gardening and enjoys traveling. Being in mental health for over 20 years, she has had the opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life. She loves being innovative in finding unique ways to inspire people to live their best lives. Monique is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Counseling and Supervision with a focus in Community Mental Health from Walden University.
In 2020, Monique established her own publishing company, DreamBig Publishing, LLC, and released her first book, “Micah Goes to Therapy” which is the first in a series of 10 books dealing with mental health issues children face. She also released her second book of the series in 2022 "The Thompson Family Goes to Therapy" which deals with families and grief. She enjoys writing and inspiring others to explore the author within themselves. As an independent author, her goal is to educate parents and children about various mental health issues through the children’s books series.
She has dedicated her life to working with individuals and families with a holistic approach. She is a firm believer that every individual can live their best life with the right tools and is driven to ensure they are provided with the highest level of service to be successful in life.
